The 1 Minute Challenge:

  • Our new mini challenge is called "Scared in 60 Seconds"

Your task is to create a complete scene/short that lasts no longer than 60 seconds:
  • Tell a complete story in exactly 1 minute — Not one second under or one second over.
  • Your submission could be a short film, a script, a monologue, or something completely different.
  • Work solo or collaborate with others in the community – whatever suits you.
  • Submit your work (finished or unfinished) by the same deadline as the main challenge: midnight on Friday, 24th October 2025.

The Mobile Phone Challenge:

  • Our extra new mini challenge is called "Found Fone Footage" (Yes, we took some liberties with that one.).

Shot entirely on your phone. 1–2 actors. 1 location.

Setting suggestion: A late-night video diary — confessions to camera that take a strange or unsettling turn.
  • Horror genre, any style – just keep the story front and centre.
  • Work solo or collaborate with others in the community – whatever suits you.
  • Submit your work (finished or unfinished) by the same deadline as the main challenge: midnight on Friday, 24th October 2025.
Email your submissions to submit@reelcreatives.co.uk. For video submissions, upload your content to YouTube or a cloud platform and send us the link via email.
  • Submissions will be showcased at our next Creative Hub event, where you'll get feedback and support from the group.

The Visual Effects Challenge:

  • Our extra extra new mini challenge is called "Spooky FX"

Focus on creating one unexpected VFX moment. It should be complete scene/short film that features a VFX shot: e.g: A ghostly figure materialising in the background / A mirror that shows something different than reality / Creepy detached shadow / A possessed object suddenly moving on its own.

As long as it’s got some narrative and a standout visual.

  • Any genre, any style – just include a stunning visual effect.
